PrintAustin Printing Workshop: Jan 20 & 21, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Starting in 2021 as an online exhibit, PrintAustin’s 5×5 continues to be an annual juried exhibition. The concept of 5×5 is to invite artists to submit five works. Artists who choose to submit to this call have at least five pieces of work that can be presented together and stand out enough to be chosen among all the entries. Five artists are selected by juror to display five of the works submitted, hence the name 5×5.
ABOUT THE JUROR FOR PRINTAUSTIN: J Myszka Lewis is a visual artist who uses print media, embroidery, and painting to consider various concepts that stem from considerations of pattern and repetition. Lewis received her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2010 and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015. She has participated in many group exhibitions at places such as the International Print Center New York (New York, NY), Charles Allis Art Museum (Milwaukee, WI), Soap Factory (Minneapolis, MN), Museum of Wisconsin Art (West Bend, WI), Trout Museum of Art (Appleton, WI), and the Chazen Museum of Art (Madison, WI). She has participated in residencies at the Jentel Foundation in Banner, Wyoming and the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She has been a finalist for a Luminarts Cultural Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship, the Hopper Prize, and the Forward Art Prize. In 2018, she received the Edna Wiechers Art in Wisconsin Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Division of the Arts.
Lewis has also been a curator at Tandem Press since 2015. In this role, she has curated numerous exhibitions of Tandem Press artworks, including solo presentations by Suzanne Caporael, David Lynch, Judy Pfaff, Alison Saar, and T.L. Solien. She has presented Tandem Press at internationally-recognized art fairs such as The Armory Show, EXPO CHICAGO, IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair, INK Miami, and others. She is based in Madison, Wisconsin.
