The Small Works exhibit will showcase a diverse array of miniature masterpieces from local and regional artists, celebrating creativity and craftsmanship in a compact format. Each piece, no larger than 12 inches in any dimension, challenges artists to distill their vision into a compact format, resulting in a diverse and compelling display. The exhibit will offer an intimate viewing experience, encouraging close inspection and appreciation of the intricate details and unique styles that make each work of art a standout.

Small Works 2024 is a juried art exhibit organized by Georgetown Art Center. Small Works 2024 will be held at the Georgetown Art Center in the historic district of Georgetown from November 22, 2024, through January 3, 2025.

Timeline: Small Works 2024 call for entries opens July 15, 2024 and closes at midnight September 15, 2024. Artists will receive notification of acceptance in early October.

July 15 – September 15, 2024 – Call for Small Works entries received

Late September, 2024 – Judges review entries

Early October, 2025 – Artists notified

November 15 – All accepted shipped entries due

November 17 – All hand-delivered accepted artwork delivered to GAC, 1-5PM

November 22 – Small Works 2024 opens at GAC

November 23 – Artist reception 4-6PM, and prizes announced 5PM

January 4, 2025 – Small Works final day

January 5, 2025 – Artists pick up unsold artwork at GAC, 1-5PM

Prizes Awarded: Small Works 2024 will award cash prizes for Best in Show plus additional cash or prizes.

Best of Show: $500

First Place: $300

Second Place: $200

Third Place: $100

Marketing Efforts: The Small Works exhibit will be featured on the Georgetown Art Center website and promoted in the Arts and Culture monthly newsletter and social media channels for the Georgetown Art Center, Georgetown Arts and Culture, and Visit Georgetown; as well as through a press release to local media and Austin-area media outlets. The Small Works exhibit will also have the opportunity to be on display at the Art Center while the facility is a participating venue on the Main Street Program’s Coffee and Cocoa Crawl.

Jurors: Small Works entries will be scored by the Georgetown Art Center Exhibits Committee, a sub-committee of the Georgetown Arts & Culture Board.

Eligibility: Submissions are open to artists who reside and create their work in the United States. The work used for your entries must have been completed within the last 3 years. Artworks may be in any media, but must be no larger than 12x12x12” including frame or base if 3-D. All submissions are received via Submittable.com and require a $35 submission fee. Incomplete applications or applications which do not follow guidelines are subject to disqualification. Entry fees are not refundable. The Georgetown Art Center reserves the right to reject entries that contain any form of hate speech, gratuitous violence, or racism at its sole discretion.

Submitting an entry confirms that the artist is the creator and copyright owner of the work.

Deadline: All entries must be received before midnight on September 15, 2024.

Entry Requirements: Artists must own the copyright of artwork submitted. Only original art will be accepted. NO reproductions or giclees. Accepted artwork must be available for the duration of the Small Works 2024 exhibit. Artwork entered must have been created between January 1, 2021 through September 15, 2024 and must be marked for sale. Works marked Not for Sale or NFS will be disqualified. Artwork without acceptable hardware for hanging or does not meet size/weight limitations will be disqualified at delivery.

In case of an emergency, this exhibition may be subject to viewing restrictions, rescheduling, or cancellation by the City of Georgetown. Entry fees are non-refundable.

Artwork Requirements: Entries may be in any media, 2-D or 3-D and may be abstract or representational. All works must be no larger than 12 inches on any side including frame. Painting, watercolor, encaustic, acrylic, oil, mixed media, textiles, collage, gouache, ink, graphite, pastel, and printmaking (prints pulled by hand.) No reproductions or giclees.

For 3-D pieces, works must be no larger than 12 inches in height, width, and depth on any side including base, and weigh no more than 4 pounds. Ceramics, sculpture, assemblage, wood, metal, mixed media may be entered. We have a limited number of shelves & pedestals available for 3-D presentation.

For photography/digital entries, artworks must be output no larger than 12 inches on any side including frame. Output must be framed/mounted with hanging hardware in a format that may be displayed on a wall or shelf. All artworks must be original. Camera-generated photographic images, computer-enhanced digital images, digital collage or montage, digital & graphic design may be entered.

Each entry must be securely labeled on the back of the art with the title, artist’s name, and phone or email address.

You may submit 1-3 artworks for a $35 entry fee. All entries must be uploaded and fee paid via Submittable.com. There is no fee to create a Submittable account.

Artists are limited to a maximum of 3 entries. Only jpg files are accepted. Images must be a minimum of 200kb and a maximum of 6Mb. Only one artwork will be exhibited from each selected artist.

Be sure to upload ALL images before clicking the submit button. When you finish uploading ALL art, click submit. You will be directed to a payment page and will not be able to return to make changes or add additional entries.

Judging: During the first round of judging, all entries will be scored online via Submittable by GAC Exhibits Committee. Artists whose entries are accepted are invited to participate in the Small Works exhibit and will receive instructions to hand-deliver or ship their work to Georgetown Art Center. If you have not received any notification by October 20, 2024, please check your junk or spam folder. Awards are announced at the Small Works reception ceremony 4:00-6:00 PM on Saturday, November 23.

Judge: Caroline Frost

Caroline Frost is the Assistant Director at Commerce Gallery in Lockhart, TX, an independent curator, and a frequent contributing writer for Glasstire. In her role as intermittent curator at Spellberg Projects, she curated four solo exhibitions: I’ll Tell You This for Free featuring Dana Robinson; Magic Shell showcasing Hannah Lee; do i not fill heaven and earth with Brady Collings; and Lyrical Space featuring Jamie Panzer. Additionally, she curated the 2021 Alumni Show at Texas State Galleries, titled States of Flux.

Additional Instructions for Accepted Artworks:

Artists are responsible for all shipping expenses and transit insurance costs TO AND FROM the Georgetown Art Center shipping address. Prepaid return shipping labels must be included with shipped work. Works without a prepaid return shipping label will not be returned.

Shipping, packaging and artwork must be clearly marked to identify the artist, and packaging must be re-usable for the return shipping, and include re-packaging and installation instructions as necessary.

Shipped artwork must have a prepaid address label in the package for return shipment.

Return shipping of artwork will begin in early January 2024.
